Blocking incoming emails via Domino 6 rules

Recently, a few of our clients were really pounded by the SOBIG.F virus. Even if they didn't have the virus themselves, they were bombarded with incoming emails to their users from other people outside their organization who did have it.
New features of Lotus Domino 6.0.1: Single Copy Template
This is one of the most fascinating changes to the Notes database structure recently. Basically, the Single Copy Template allows you to take a server containing multiple databases with the same template to actually SHARE THEIR DESIGN. For example, if you have 100 mail databases on a server, you can set it up so that they all SHARE 1 DESIGN. They physically share 1 design. If each of the mail databases was originally a 12 MB sized database (without documents), you can bring each one of them down to about 1 MB in size each. In this simple example, you could save over 1 GB in drive space. Not only that, but Domino handles the memory such that once a particular design element is retrieved for use with one user, the next user who requests that design element retrieves it from the server's memory with no disk access. This vastly improves performance by reducing drive access bottlenecks. Also, this concept in general got us thinking about a recent Lotus/IBM seminar where they mentioned that Notes 7 will allow a DB2 back-end while retaining the Lotus Designer client. Perhaps this is the first step to allowing a Notes database to be broken away from the design. Just a thought but we think that IBM is on the right track by trying to leverage the great power of Lotus Notes/Domino while reducing it's known bottlenecks wherever possible. If you have any databases that share the same design (especially mail) and you want to reduce disk space using and improve performance, you shouldn't go without reading this document and get this one your Domino 6 server asap.
